Joan Wright's Bio:

I have taught secondary school Maths and French in both South Africa and UK but my passion has always been for one to one tuition. I was privileged to volunteer as a Craft and English teacher at a Montessori Special Needs school in Mauritius. In 2010, I was able to indulge my passion for one-to-one tuition and for 7 wonderful years was the one-to-one remedial teacher at a school in the UK. I also spent 2 years in USA caring for my granddaughter and whilst there I volunteered at the playgroup of 2 year olds. I always thought of myself as a teacher for secondary school but I have found myself charmed as I returned to the wonderful 2 to 4 year olds. Their absorbent minds and love of learning, coupled with their energy are a constant joy. The best part of my teaching day, is the beginning of the zoom circle time, as each child joins in the ‘hello’ song with a huge smile and holds up the soft toy they have brought specially to show ‘Miss Joan’.

Group Description:

Play Sense Online is grounded in our belief that play-based learning at home is best for developing core capacities in little ones. As a parent of a toddler, you might choose to keep your little one at home for a variety of reasons. With the right support and technology, you can give your child the opportunity for socialization and stimulation they need from the comfort of your own home.

"Our teacher has made the activities and themes so accessible to even a 2 year old! I wasn’t sure how online learning at such a young age would work but our teacher, Aunty Joan demonstrated a natural talent at making even tricky activities accessible in an age appropriate fun way. Her ability to grade the tasks to meet the child’s developmental age and stage was second nature to her. She was able to communicate with each student in the group and yet still encourage group engagement through songs and movements. I especially love the focus on emotional literacy and how it transfers to social awareness and intelligence, it’s so subtle in the activities but yet such an important life skill. It has been one of the best decisions we have ever made in our parenting journey so far." - Helen
